Denmark's events calendar leans heavily on the bright Nordic summer, when the long days fuel music festivals, harbour celebrations and street life, before turning cosy and twinkling for Christmas.
Roskilde Festival (late June / early July)
Northern Europe's largest music festival, held near Roskilde since 1971. A week of camping and live music across many stages, drawing a huge international crowd and big headline acts.
Copenhagen Jazz Festival (July)
One of Europe's major jazz events, filling clubs, concert halls and public squares across the capital with hundreds of concerts, many of them free.
Copenhagen Culture Night / Kulturnatten (October)
For one evening, museums, palaces, libraries and institutions across the city open late with special programmes on a single shared ticket.
Christmas markets & Tivoli (November to December)
Denmark does Christmas beautifully: julemarkeder (Christmas markets), gløgg (mulled wine) and æbleskiver, and Tivoli Gardens transformed with lights and a Christmas market.
