Opened in 1843, Tivoli Gardens sits right in the centre of Copenhagen, beside the main railway station: a rare amusement park woven into the heart of a capital city.
Tivoli is far more than rides. It blends vintage attractions (including a wooden roller coaster from 1914) with manicured gardens, lakes, restaurants, theatres and open-air concerts. By day it's a relaxed garden to stroll; after dark it transforms with thousands of lights, fountains and music. Its romantic atmosphere is often said to have influenced Walt Disney when he was designing Disneyland.
The park is especially magical during its seasonal openings for summer, Halloween, and Christmas, when it hosts one of Copenhagen's loveliest Christmas markets. It's an easy, all-ages highlight of any Copenhagen visit.
